Andre Agassi or Andre Kirk Agassi is a renowned professional tennis player of his times and is the former World No.1 hailing from the United States with an uniques record of winning eight Grand Slam singles tournaments along with an Olympic gold medal in singles. It is recorded, that he happens to be one of only five male players to have won all four Grand Slam singles events during his career. Not only this he is also the holder of many other records also. He is till now the only player in the open era circuit to claim every Grand Slam singles title, to have won the Tennis Masters Cup. Not only in the sphere of single circuit he has equally shown his brilliance in the double circuit. This is evident in his being an acitive member and an inseparable part of the winning team of the Davis Cup, and also to win an Olympic gold medalin the same realm. He has to his credit of winning 17 ATP Masters Series tournaments, that is not only more than any other player, but till now this has remained as a distant dream for others only to be achieved on some day. He was also acclaimed by the illustrious Tennis Magazine as the 7th greatest male player in the arena of International Tennis from 1965 through 2005.

Agassi hails from an Iranian (Armenian and Assyrian) origin. His father named Emmanuel ‘Mike’Agassi was at the helm of his career during his lifetime and represented Iran in the circuit of boxing at both the 1948 and 1952 Olympic Games before his final emigration to the United States of America. It is said that he had a deep intention to have a child who would win all the four tennis Grand Slam tournaments one day. He learned tennis by watching tapes of champions and took a very systematic approach to the game and is thus the main source of inspiration behind his son’s tennis career in the initial years and also in the later life.

Andre Agassi reached the World No. 1 ranking for the first time in April 1995, the brightest year in his career. He was in the No. 1 ranking until the month of November, for a total of 30 weeks. Again also even in terms of win/loss record, 1995 was Agassi's best year. It was in this year when he won 72 matches and lost only 10. This was undoubtedly a higher winning percentage than Pit  Sampras’ best season, 1994, where he could win 77 matches, loosing only 12. However, it was due to sciatica caused by two bulging discs in his back, a Spondylolisthesis (shifting vertebrae), and the emergene of  bone spur interfering with the nerve that was mainly responsible for his early exit from the International Tennis Circuit.
